The Pontifical
Mission Societies
The Pontifical Mission Societies are dedicated primarily to the promotion of a universal missionary spirit among all baptized Catholics of prayer and sacrifice. Their mission includes gathering support for the worldwide mission of the Church. The Pontifical Mission Societies is composed of four individual societies which are listed below.
-
The Society for the Propagation of the Faith, under the direction of the Pope, supports the Church’s missionary efforts in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and remote Latin America. It aids in the education and sustenance of seminarians, novices, and lay catechists, as well as supporting religious communities in education, healthcare, and social services. The General Fund, which collects global contributions, is the main source of support for Catholic Missions. Donations can also be made for mission work, Mass stipends, and Perpetual Memorials for individuals.
-
The Society of St. Peter Apostle encourages prayer and financial help for vocations to the priesthood and religious life in the missions. The goal of this society is to invite individuals to support the education of candidates for the Catholic priesthood in the Developing World and to support the formation of women and men candidates for the religious life in the missions.
-
The Missionary Childhood Association (MCA) provides young Catholics and their families with opportunities to embrace the call to missionary discipleship, a commitment through Baptism, by actively sharing and living their Catholic faith. MCA encourages young Catholics and their families to pray and sacrifice for the global missions of the Church.
-
The Missionary Union is a spiritual apostolate dedication to educating and forming priests, religious women and men, pastoral leaders and those responsible for catechesis and religious education. Its mission is to prepare them to inspire and foster the missionary spirit in others.
